Trying to figure out why it upsets me so when people attack my congresswoman, Carol Shea-Porter, and especially when it is people of our own party. Part of it is simply that I never knew one of my representatives before this year as a person. I was part of Carol's campaign, and because it was a grassroots campaign in every sense of the word, and a low-budget one, we all got to know each other as we shared the enormous workload as volunteers. So I know Carol as a woman as well as a public servant.
And I know a couple of my state reps as well, since we worked together on our Democratic town committees and on campaigns. It really makes it different! Since I got started with the Dean campaign, at least as far as anything but town politics, I am pretty new to this.
I also wonder at the short memories that people have. Not that long ago we had a congressman that we could count on not to count on. Electing a Democrat, and the first woman ever to serve in Congress from NH, was such an amazing victory. I just want to cherish her.
